IndiaRich in culture with its architecture, temples and vast landscapes, India is full of traditions and customs that provide great interest for the health traveller. A destination many would like to visit, but not always the first thought when it comes to medical care and yet India's private hospitals are amongst the top health care providers in the world. Hospitals & FacilitiesThe state of the art hospitals and world class medical teams deliver a service of care that would rival most other hospitals around the world. A network of leading health providers located in each major city offers a dedicated facility for any speciality. Any concerns regarding language barriers can be dismissed as many surgeons have trained and worked in the UK and are members of the GMC. The facilities cater for all the needs of the international patient with luxurious suites and continental chefs. Surgical procedures are a fraction of the cost compared with UK prices, with most operations being only a quarter of the price. TravelThough 9 hours from the UK, the low cost of surgery and excellence of care more than make up for the journey. The time difference of 5 ½ hours ahead means that most arrivals are in the middle of the night. Flights are available from most UK airports but the lowest priced flights are from London Heathrow. Upon arrival Surgery Worldwide will arrange for you to be met and escorted to your hotel, as well as all transfers for hospitals visits. During your stay the train is a safe and comfortable mode of transport, and taxi's are relatively cheap but we wouldn't recommend the bus or hiring your own car. Driving in India is not for the faint hearted. Visas are required for India. The cost of a medical visa is £55* and the process isn't the simplest or quickest but we can assist. Upon arrival in India the team will once again assist with fast tracking you through the immigration process. Our team can provide further tourist and visa information and sight seeing tips. AccommodationSeveral of the hospitals have hotel accommodation attached to them, offering the ideal surroundings and more cost effective option for your recuperation. Standard hotel prices vary again dependent on region with Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore costing £45-£60 per night for 3 star accommodation. Where as, a nights stay outside of the major cities may be £15 cheaper. ClimateThe climate varies throughout the year with four seasons; winter, summer, monsoon, post monsoon, and again between regions. March to May - Really hot weather, when you may find it very dry, dusty and unpleasant. December to February - The winter months with cool, fresh mornings and evenings but dry, sunny days. June and September - Monsoon season. As the weather really does vary dependent on the region, when considering your options please speak to the team at Surgery Worldwide who will be able to advise if you need to pack an umbrella or sarong. CurrencyThe currency used in India is Rupees (INR) and £1 will get you roughly 80 rupees which is more than enough to buy you something eat. One of the major banks in India is HSBC, offering the UK patient additional convenience. *Current fee August 2008 |
